Wisdom of Wintering
Kilmun, Dunoon, Scotland, Feb 2023
“Plants and animals don’t fight the winter, they don’t pretend it’s not happening and attempt to carry on living the same lies they lived in summer. They prepare. They adapt, They perform extraordinary acts of metamorphosis to get them through. Wintering is a time of withdrawing from the world, maximising scant resources, carrying out acts of brutal efficiency and vanishing from sight; but that’s where the transformation occurs. Winter is not the death of the life cycle, but it’s crucible.” Katherine May, Wintering: The power of rest and retreat in difficult times
Here at Floresta we want to do Winter a little differently, not to resist it but embrace it in all its transformative glory. To encourage people to come together and to invite rest into the simple rhythm of our days. We understand rest as not a singular activity but as something that can be shared communally. Immersions offer a space, if maybe only for a short while, to live life a little differently.
This will be a weekend of crackling fires, slow and delicious vinyasa flows, the cosiest of yin and restorative practices, journaling, meditation and for those who dare icy cold plunges into the Atlantic. A weekend of taking the everyday tasks and creating rituals. We will cook together, look after each other and hold space for each other to rest.
At the heart of Floresta lies a desire to cultivate community; carving out space to take care of those around us, to make room for intelligent conversations, to connect through movement, to commune through cooking. In essence Floresta is a space to invite the unusual in today’s modern rush: care, community, warmth, support and excitement. To know that if that can be achieved within an immersion we have the capacity to take that magic home and into our daily lives.
A weekend immersion with Floresta is an invitation to cultivate the magic that is joy.
If a weekend of movement, delicious food, journaling, icy cold plunges and conversation peaks your curiosity send us a love note.
